Delhi Government To Restrict Non-BS6 Vehicles From November 1

The Delhi government has outlined a series of measures to curb air pollution during the upcoming winter season. These include restrictions on vehicles registered outside the national capital that do not comply with BS6 emission standards.

The discussion took place at a high-level meeting chaired by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on September 28, 2026, to review the city's air pollution mitigation plan.

Under the proposal, the entry of vehicles registered outside Delhi that do not meet BS6 emission standards will be restricted from November 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027. CNG and electric vehicles will be exempt from this restriction. The plan also includes doubling parking charges, introducing staggered office timings and implementing 50% work-from-home arrangements.

With this proposal, the government aims to limit the entry of older, more polluting vehicles into the city. However, the announcement does not specify the categories of vehicles covered beyond the stated registration and emission-standard criteria.

The Delhi government aims to reduce vehicular emissions and manage pollution levels during the winter months, when air quality in the capital typically deteriorates. The meeting also called for coordinated enforcement across agencies and continuous monitoring of pollution control measures.

The government also plans to double parking charges as part of the winter protocol. The measure is intended to discourage private vehicle use, although further details regarding its implementation and the duration of the increased charges were not specified in the announcement.
