Swedish carmaker Volvo Cars has appointed Klaus Zellmer as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. Zellmer will assume the position on October 1, 2027, succeeding Håkan Samuelsson, who led Volvo from 2012 to 2022 and again since April 2025.
Zellmer has more than 30 years of experience in the automotive industry. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Management and CEO of Škoda Auto. Previously, he was responsible for marketing, sales and after-sales at Volkswagen Passenger Cars, where he was also a member of the Board of Management.
Spanning more than two decades, Zellmer also held several senior leadership positions at Porsche, including CEO of Porsche Deutschland and CEO of Porsche North America.
Škoda reported record results in 2025 under Zellmer’s leadership, followed by further growth and record electric vehicle deliveries in the first half of 2026, according to Volvo Cars.
Håkan Samuelsson has led Volvo Cars across two tenures, first from 2012 to 2022 and again since April 2025. His current tenure has focused on providing stability and developing the company’s long-term strategic roadmap.
Zellmer said he looks forward to building on Volvo Cars’ existing strengths, including its focus on safety, design and brand identity, while contributing to the company’s next phase of development.
