Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Makes Global Debut With Up To 713 KM Range

Not long after BMW introduced the second-gen iX3, Mercedes-Benz has revealed the all-electric version of its popular GLC SUV at the Munich Motor Show in Germany. Named GLC with EQ Tech, this new model sits on a dedicated EV platform with Mercedes claiming it to be good for up to 713 km on a full charge. While electrified, the SUV has a slightly familiar design language that links it to the rest of the GLC range.

Also Read: Mercedes-Benz G 580 EV Review: The Green Beast
Mercedes Benz GLC Electric Unveiled 1Starting with the design, the GLC with EQ Technology brings a fresh take, albeit on a familiar design template. At a glance, it still looks very much like a GLC, with similar proportions and an overall shape that mirrors its ICE sibling. But some clear visual updates set it apart, one of which is the grille. It is now fully illuminated with 942 tiny LEDs.

The headlights get star-shaped daytime running lights, and the rear features a sleek light bar with star-like LEDs – touches borrowed from the electric CLA. There’s also a subtle roof spoiler that helps with aerodynamics, and according to Mercedes, the electric GLC manages a drag coefficient of just 0.26. As for the profile, 20-inch alloys come standard, but you can bump that up to 21 inches.

Mercedes Benz GLC Electric Unveiled 3
The GLC with EQ Tech has an 84 mm longer wheelbase as compared to the ICE GLC, measuring 2,972 mm. When it comes to storage, the boot space is rated to be 570 litres, plus an additional 128 litres in the frunk.

Coming to the interior, Mercedes has brought back physical buttons and knobs on the steering wheel and centre console, moving away from the touch-sensitive controls seen in many of its recent models. That tactile approach contrasts nicely with the highlight of the cabin, which is the massive (optional) 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. It stretches across the entire dashboard and merges the digital instrument cluster, central infotainment display, and a passenger screen into one unit.
Mercedes Benz GLC Electric Unveiled 4
The cabin also gets extensive ambient lighting running across the dashboard, doors, roofline, and even inside the air vents. Buyers will have plenty of ways to customise the interior too, with a range of materials and trim options on offer. These include Artico or Nappa leather upholstery, along with metallic and carbon fibre trim finishes.
Mercedes Benz GLC Electric Unveiled 2
The GLC packs a 94 kWh battery and runs on an 800-volt architecture, which helps it deliver both strong performance and quick charging. It puts out 483 bhp and has a top speed of 210 kmph. On the WLTP cycle, the claimed range is up to 713 km. Charging is fast as with a max capacity of 330 kW, the GLC can add up to 303 km of range in just 10 minutes. Mercedes says that four other versions of the GLC EV will follow, though we expect the battery pack to remain the same.

IAA 2025: Volkswagen ID.Cross Concept Previews Taigun-Sized Electric SUV

Volkswagen's star showcase at this year's IAA Mobility show is an electric SUV concept that provides a look at an upcoming, battery-powered compact SUV. Named the ID.Cross, the latest VW concept is the fourth in a series of concept vehicles Volkswagen has revealed in recent years, which preview its future mass-market electric offerings. The ID.Cross is, from a size standpoint, quite close to the Volkswagen Taigun, and the production model it spawns is expected to be one of Volkswagen's most affordable EVs globally. The ID.Cross has been showcased at IAA 2025 alongside the ID.Polo and ID.Polo GTI, both of which will be revealed in final production form in the first half of 2026.

volkswagen id cross concept previews taigun size electric suv iaa 2025 carandbike 5

Volkswagen ID.Cross Concept: Dimensions

Based on the VW Group's MEB Plus (MEB+) architecture, the ID.Cross measures in at 4,161 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width and 1,588 mm in height, with a 2,601 mm wheelbase, which means it falls just short of matching the Taigun's dimensions in every dimension except width.

Volkswagen ID.Cross Concept: Performance and Range

The ID.Cross is equipped with an electric motor that produces a peak 208 bhp and drives the front wheels only. This will be sufficient to propel the SUV to a top speed of 175 kmph, according to VW, and the company expects this SUV to have a range of up to 420 kilometres (WLTP), though no battery details have been shared at this point.

This is a developing story. Please stay tuned for more details.

Second-Gen BMW iX3 Revealed As First Neue Klasse Electric SUV

BMW has pulled the wraps off the new iX3, the first production model to use its new Neue Klasse electric platform. The name, first used in the 1960s for a series of cars that helped define BMW’s identity, now returns as the base for its next generation of EVs. The second generation of the all-electric mid-sized luxury SUV will be launched later this year in Germany, with an India launch expected by late 2026.

Also Read: BMW India Announces 3% Price Hike Starting September

New BMW i X3

The new iX3 is equipped with a 108.7 kWh battery, built on BMW’s latest 800V architecture and cylindrical cell design. It supports fast charging at up to 400 kW, which, according to BMW, can add around 372 km of range in just 10 minutes. On a full charge, the claimed range is up to 805 km (WLTP). Power comes from a dual-motor setup making 469 bhp and 645 Nm, with all-wheel drive and a 0-100 kmph time of 4.9 seconds.

Also Read: BMW iX1 LWB vs BYD Sealion 7: Which Premium Electric SUV Should You Buy?

New BMW i X3 1

The Neue Klasse (New Class in German) is a name BMW used in the Sixties for a new range of cars that sort of scripted its revival. The electric platform is capable of ultra-fast charging with its 800V architecture. It will also feature BMW’s latest 6th-generation eDrive powertrains. The battery cells are cylindrical instead of prismatic and claimed to have higher energy density, which has enhanced range by more than a third.

Also Read: BMW 3 Series, M340i 50 Jahre Editions Launched In India; Prices Start From Rs 64 Lakh

  New BMW i X3 2

The design of the new iX3 reflects BMW’s new styling language. At the front, the iX3 features an upright stance and sleek, newly designed headlights. In profile, it gets flush-fitting door handles and squared-off, body-coloured wheel arches, while 20-inch alloy wheels come standard, 21- and 22-inch wheels are also available as an option. At the rear, wide L-shaped taillights adopt an angular design and are split into individual lighting elements.

New BMW i X3 4

Taking centre stage on the dashboard is a 17.9-inch touchscreen, running BMW’s new Operating System X. Complementing it is the Panoramic Vision display, which stretches across the width of the windscreen and shows essential driving info such as battery charge level, current drive mode, and outside temperature.

Other details of the second-gen model include the 520 litres of boot space, which expands to 1,750 litres when the rear seats are folded. There’s also a 58-litre storage compartment under the bonnet, useful for stashing charging cables or smaller bags.

New BMW i X3 5

In terms of rivals, the iX3 will likely go up against models like the Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan EV, with the Mercedes EQB also falling into the picture. The first-generation iX3 never made it to India, largely due to its high pricing as a full import. This time, local assembly in Chennai seems more likely, though pricing is still expected to hover around the Rs 1 crore mark.

BMW also previewed the upcoming iX3 sedan, the next vehicle in the Neue Klasse series, with 40 new or updated models expected by 2027.

Citroen Basalt X Launched In India

Just like the recently launched C3 X, the Basalt X doesn’t get any major visual updates on the exterior, apart from a new ‘X’ badge on the tailgate that sets it apart. The main highlight is in the interior. The dashboard undergoes a noticeable redesign, featuring a more squared-off layout complemented by a dual-tone finish and a textured pattern along the upper panel’s edge.

Citroen Basalt X Launched In India 4

The centre console also adopts a refreshed look, now sporting sleeker air-conditioning vents, contrast trim accents, and repositioned controls that sit higher up on the stack. The hazard light switch moves from the lower section of the console to a new spot between the air vents. Additionally, the coupe-SUV appears to offer leatherette upholstery, at least in its top-spec variant.

The most significant change that comes with the ‘X’ badge is the upgraded feature list. Leading which is ‘Cara’, Citroen’s new in-car voice assistant. Cara handles a variety of tasks, from providing updates about the car, media controls, hands-free calling, SOS functions, smart reminders, and more. However, it's worth noting that Cara is exclusive to the automatic versions of the Basalt X Max, which is the top-spec variant.

For the Alcazar Knight edition, Hyundai is offering the special edition only on the top-spec Signature trim with both petrol and diesel engine options. Both units are paired solely with automatic gearboxes. Electric Vehicles To Continue With Lowest GST Rates Across All Segments

New set of GST reforms have been announced and they have brought festive cheer to new car and bike buyers across the country. While taxes on mass market cars and bikes have been reduced to 18% from 28%, the GST council has left electric vehicles untouched and they will continue to attract a 5% tax just like earlier. This includes both passenger cars as well as two-wheelers. So as far as green mobility goes, nothing really changes when it comes to the tax structure.

Premium EVs too will continue to be sold with 5% GST

There was speculation before the council meeting that EVs will be put in separate tax slabs based on how they are priced. This included levying 5% GST on EVs priced below Rs. 20 lakh and 18% GST on electric cars priced between Rs. 20 lakh and Rs. 40 lakh. It was also speculated that any EV priced above Rs. 40 lakh could be taxed at a higher 40% rate but the govt chose to continue with a flat 5% rate across all segments.

Electric-two wheeler tax slab has also not changed.

While new GST rates for Petrol and Diesel cars will come into effect from September 22nd, no changes in EV tax slab means that prices will remain unchanged. This signifies centre’s big push towards electric mobility as any increase in taxes could’ve made EVs more expensive, thereby hampering sales in the crucial festive season.
