New Audi Q3 Sportback Makes Global Debut

Audi has unveiled the second-gen Q3 Sportback Coupe-SUV ahead of it going on sale in global markets in the coming months. The new Q3 Sportback shares all of its tech and mechanicals with the new Q3 SUV unveiled in June 2025, with major differences coming down to the styling changes, including a more pronounced coupe-like roofline and alloy wheels.

On the design front, the Q3 Sportback carries over the standard Q3’s split headlamp design with high-set LED daytime running lamps and the headlamps set lower down in the bumper flanking the hexagonal Audi grille. In profile, the Sportback’s sleeker profile becomes more apparent with a sharply raked C-pillar and rear windshield and a revised glasshouse. Audi says that the sleeker roofline makes the Sportback 29 mm lower than the standard SUV. Another differentiator over the SUV is the wheels, which are 18-inchers as standard compared to the SUV’s 17-inchers. Both the Q3 SUV and Sportback offer wheel size options of up to 20 inches.

Moving to the rear, the sharply raked rear windshield aside, the design is identical to the third-gen Q3, replete with two-piece tail lamps comprising a full-width lightbar and slim main stop lamps positioned higher up. As with the Q3 SUV, the Sportback also gets the option of OLED lighting

Inside the cabin, the Q3 Sportback gets an identical cabin layout as its SUV sibling, save for slightly tighter headroom. The dashboard features an 11.9-inch instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch MMI touchscreen infotainment system in top spec trim with no option for a dedicated co-driver display. The control surfaces are also directly carried over, including the new fixed stalks behind the steering that now house button-based controls for the wipers and other functions.

While Audi hasn’t shared full details on the room within the cabin, it says the cargo capacity with the rear seats folded down is reduced by 97 litres over the SUV.

Moving to the engine line-up, the new Q3 Sportback carries over the same line-up from the Q3 SUV, including an entry-level 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol in two states of tune and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Also offered is an e-hybrid plug-in hybrid option, developing a combined 268 bhp and 400 Nm - identical to the Q3 e-hybrid. Interestingly, the Q3 Sportback e-hybrid has a slightly lower EV-only range at 118 km to the SUV’s 119 km.

New TVS e-Scooter India Launch On August 28; Likely To Be Named Orbiter

TVS looks set to expand its electric scooter line-up with the launch of an all-new electric scooter. Likely to be badged Orbiter, the scooter is expected to be based on the design patents that the company filed earlier this year in Indonesia, previewing a boxy scooter with large wheels.

The teaser image accompanying the launch date announcement shows a model hidden by a cover, hiding away almost all details. The only visible cues include the curve of what looks to be a large front wheel visible at the front and the points of the handlebar-mounted rear view mirrors. The teaser image also featured a large ‘O’ in the background, alluding to the fact that the model’s name could start with the letter.

TVS electric scooter

TVS’ previous patent images have suggested that the scooter will get a very utilitarian design with boxy and upright proportions while retaining some of the design elements seen on the iQube, including the edge-to-edge DRL on the front apron and the taillight.

The suspension set-up is also expected to be quite basic with a telescopic fork up front and twin shocks at the rear. The electric motor, meanwhile, looks to be mounted in the rear wheel hub.

EVs Exempt From Paying Toll On Atal Setu From August 22

The Maharashtra state government has waived toll for electric vehicles on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link or Atal Setu, with effect from August 22, 2025. The exemption arrives months after the government incorporated the new state EV policy 2025, which listed toll exemptions on major roads such as the Atal Setu, Mumbai-Pune Expressway and others for electric vehicles.

Also read: Maharashtra EV Policy 2025 Approved: Check Subsidies For Electric Scooters And Cars

As per reports, the toll exemption for EVs is set to eventually also extend to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Samruddhi Expressway as well in the coming months. Decisions for toll waivers or subsidised rates for other state and national highways within the state will also be taken in due course.

The exemption for tolls was one of several measures to be undertaken by the state government in a bid to push EV uptake, which included establishing more charging stations, subsidies on electric two-wheelers and passenger cars and waiver of registration charges. The toll waiver is applicable to all electric passenger vehicles, privately owned or commercial, including buses. Electric goods carriers do not fall under the exempted category. The new EV policy is valid until March 31, 2030.

Interestingly, the state government had issued a Government Resolution in May 2025, citing the exemption from payment of tolls for EVs on Atal Setu, Mumbai Pune Expressway and the Samruddhi Expressway. However, tolls have reportedly continued to be collected from all vehicles on the aforementioned routes so far.

On the powertrain front, things will remain unchanged. The Xtreme 125R will stick with its 124.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, now also found in the Glamour X. It produces 11.4 bhp at 8,250 rpm and 10.5 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm and is paired with a 5-speed gearbox.

In other news, Hero MotoCorp has quietly introduced a new single-seat variant of the Xtreme 125R lineup. Priced at Rs 1 lakh, it slots between the split-seat IBS variant at Rs 98,425 and the top-spec ABS variant at Rs 1.02 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). Expect the new ‘X Factor’ Xtreme 125R to be priced above this.
